9/18/2003 - Man back sinto sandwich shop

In the early afternoon San Diego Fire units responded to a traffic collision to find a car on the sidewalk and a damaged building.  According to wittiness on the scene the elderly gentleman driving the red car started by having a minor fender bender where he damaged two work trucks parked on the west of the one way street then went in reverse across all lanes into then into the shop.  There were no major injuries but the drive will be evaluated by the DMV.


9/12/2003 - Early morning crash kills one

A major traffic collision on south bound interstate 15 claimed a life in the early morning hours today and closed the freeway for a approximately 30 min until emergency crews secured the scene. Crews from SDFD and Miramar Fire responded but were unable to save the driver of the Hyundai; the other patients were transported to local area hospitals.

 


8/27/2003 - Poway Fire

At About 3:52 PM Poway and San Diego City fire departments responded to a report of a brush fire in the area of 11540 Creek Rd on the border of both districts. 

 The fire burned 55 acres and posed a substantial structure threat, according to Division Chief Bruce Cartelli (SDFD.) All together ground units from San Diego, Poway,CDF and Air resources County Copter 1 with CDF fixed and  helicopters had the fire contained at 98 percent by 6:30pm with no loss of structures or life. According to SDFD the fire in still being investigated but a downed power line is believed to be the origin of the fire.


7/25/2003 - Santee,CACarintoHouse

 At approximately 10:35 PM a car being driven south bound on Summit lost control skidding across the road and into a house located on the corner or Princess Joann and Princess Arlene.

 Division Chief Howard Rayon with the Santee Fire Department stated that units were dispatched to a vehicle into a structure, when they arrived they found the car, a green Honda, in the kitchen with no injuries to any persons at the scene.  The fire department also inspected the house for structural damage prior to allowing persons to occupy. The vehicle finally came to rest in the kitchen after the driver, a16 year old female lost control, skidded across the road though the fence and hedges, stopping inside the house after dislodging the counter and most of the contents in the dining room. 

Sgt. Tom Poulin of the San Diego Sheriffs office said this incident was under investigation but speed was probably a factor in this collision. The owners of the residence were not at home at the time but their son Kevin Wilson was, 19 year old Kevin had said he was in the living room waiting for a friend to drop by at the time of the collision, when he heard the car skidding and jumped across the room thinking that it might hit the house.  “Take it as a blessing that I was alone ” he said.   The residents had just completed a remodel of the kitchen and backside of the house.


5/23/2003 - Lakeside wildfire burns 40 acres

San Diego County, Lakeside CA  Firefighters responded today to a fire that originated behind Trevors Ct. in Lakeside at about 3:30 pm.

 The has burned about 40 acres and is expected to be contained at about midnight. Units from the entire county were call in to assist including CDF, US Forest Service, Heartland Fire, San Diego City, and Federal Fire.

 Also, joining the fight against the fire were 2 CDF fixed wing aircraft and a helicopter along with San Diego County Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter.  The quick response of the Lakeside Fire Dept. in ordering additional strike teams helped save several homes that were in immediate threat by the fire.
