Lakeside, CA Lakeside Fire Department rescues a driver after he wraps his car around a palm tree. CHP PIO Pennings stated that a graveyard patrol unit was monitoring a stop sign in Lakeside when they noticed a car run it at about 45 miles per hour. The unit attempted to make a traffic stop when the unidentified male from Pine Valley failed to yield to the CHP unit, shortly after the CHP unit called off the pursuit deeming unsafe speeds and conditions in hope the suspect would slow down. After calling off the pursuit the unit came upon the 92 thunderbird, at the intersection of Lakeview and East Lakeview where the driver fail to negotiate a slight curve and stop sign. The driver was extricated and air lifted to a local trauma hospital with major injuries.
