2nd Alarm in Chula Vista

3/19/2005

A fire started at approximately 10:30 p.m. in an abandoned 18,000-square feet building at Landis and Davidson in Chula Vista. Firefighters had several obstacles during the battle including near by palm trees that were bursting into flames from the heat and flames and near by homes that had to be evacuated.  A next door neighbor expressed concern about several transients that had been living in the building.  It took about 45 firefighters over one hour to using three truck mounted master streams and several hand lines with help from neighboring National City and San Diego City fire departments.  After all the fire was doused and firefighters returned inside the building they discovered the charred remains of a body in the burned building, the cause of the fire is under investigation and considered a crime scene.   Additional photos provided by Sean Wolfe http://www.sandiegonewsphotographer.com
