Ribbonwood Fire | 7/18/2004 At approximately 10:00 AM a fire reportedly started by a migrant campfire near interstate 8 and Ribbonwood road in Boulevard, CA immediately consumed 65 acres and threatened 50 structures. The CDF upon initial dispatch and size up quickly ordered several strike teams and air attack units to the scene to try and stop the fires forward advances against Ribbonwood road in an effort to hold the fire from crossing the road and becoming a several thousand acre fire. With the unified efforts of the CDF, US Forest service, San Diego Rural, and local fire department personal the fire was initially held to the west of ribbonwood road however a few stray embers and a lot of wind ignited a spot fire to the east of the road, this fire was quickly contained with the use of air support, hand crews and personal already on scene. The hot, dry, windy conditions made the fire conditions extremely difficult, however per CDF the excellent defensible space helped save the homes and buildings. The fire was finally halted at approximately 92 acres with reports of one firefighter being checked for an unknown insect bite and on transported for a dislocated shoulder
