The Melton fire has burned to date 3219 acres threatening over 200 structures, No firefighters or other civilian injuries have been reported. As of this article; 7 vehicles, 3 singlewides, 1 travel trailer, 1 motor home, and 11 out buildings have been destroyed with an estimated cost of $200,000. The fire is currently 25% contained with full containment expected by midnight on 7/19/2004. Firefighting costs are currently at $736,306 with 134 engines, 905 firefighters, 72 overhead personal, 6 helicopters, 1 Air attack, 6 Air tankers, 34 Fire crews, 21 water tenders, 7 bulldozers, and several other cooperating agencies. The fire is determined to be started by target practice, the responsible person has been cited and may be responsible for the fire suppression costs.7
